MUMBAI, June 9 (Bernama) — Red palm oil that contains provitamin A carotenes, is one of the many products that can be introduced in India.
“This red palm oil can be a good source of Vitamin A for India which has high incidence of night blindness,” Malaysian Palm Oil Board Director General Datuk Dr Choo Yuen May said.
Other products that could be introduced to the Indian market were palm puree for food applications and palm phytonutrients such as tocotrienols for health supplements, she said at the end of Malaysia-India Palm Oil Trade Fair & Seminar 2012.
Going forward, she said, Malaysia would be able to assist and share its experience with India that is keen to go big in oil palm cultivation given the country’s vast experience in the upstream as well as downstream activities.
“For example, we have developed and implemented good practices in agriculture, milling and processing under the Codes of Practice (COP) whose objective is to improve productivity, product quality and food safety,” she said.
“On the downstream, we would be able to assist India to formulate various food applications to meet the specific local requirements,” said.
