Kuala Lumpur – Those working in oil palm estates need not be overly concerned with retrenchment as the industry is still resilient. Malaysian Palm Oil Association chairman Datuk Azhar Abdul Hamid said he had not heard of any retrenchments even in difficult times.
“The job is quite secure for those in our plantations and mills, thanks to labour laws and regulations, like those under the ambit of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil, which ensure the welfare of workers.
“Thus, whether local or foreign workers, they enjoy similar wages and benefits. Being productivity-based, those willing to work extra will earn more.”
