KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 17 (Bernama) — Sime Darby Plantations Sdn Bhd and KPMG Malaysia are collaborating in a mangrove replanting project in Carey Island in Selangor.

KPMG, an accounting giant, has contributed RM50,000 for the project as part of its corporate social responsibility initiative.

Sime Darby Plantations Managing Director Datuk Azhar Abdul Hamid said the contribution would go towards the construction of a 60-metre-long geo-tube and gabions structure.

This structure would function as a wave breaker, he told reporters at a function where KPMG handed the cheque for RM50,000.

Azhar said: ” The mangrove replanting asset that we have started in Carey Island is actually part of our research and development centre collaborative project with University Malaya.”

The company has been working with the country’s oldest university in research on the island’s biodiversity since 2003.

The research includes propagation of mangrove species through biotechnological method.

On crude palm oil (CPO) price, Azhar said prices are expected to fluctuate between RM2,000 and RM2,300 until year-end.

” The group will be happy as long as CPO prices remain above RM2,000,” he added.
