MPOC Launches 2nd Photography Competition 2014

PETALING JAYA — The Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC) has launched Palm Portraits Photography Competition 2014. This competition is in its second year. The competition first started in October 2012 while the announcement of selected winners, from an impressive 600 submissions, took place during Palm Oil Leadership Award Dinner 2013.

With the tagline, Discover Nature’s Gift, the competition is meant to increase the awareness of palm oil through the beauty of imagery. The submission for the competition would be from May 15, 2014 to July 31, 2014.

In a statement, MPOC said that the Grand Prize and Category winners this year and their work will be honoured at an awards ceremony. Winning image submissions will be exhibited during the Award Ceremony. Prizes up for grabs are worth up to US$15,000 (RM48,182).

The award competition is open to both local and international participants aged 18 and above from either the amateur or professional, individual or representative of any Photography Club and agencies.

There will be 2 different categories for the participants to join: Nature & Products — The nature category can be interpreted in as many ways including creatures and creations but will reflect the role of palm oil. People & Portraits — This category focuses on the expressions and identity of the individual or collective workforce in relation to oil palm plantation, palm oil production, etc.

A panel of esteemed judges, comprised of renowned and well-known photographers with different expertise, includes: Shamshahrin Shamsudin (Photographer from European Press Photo Agency), Che’ Mat Azhar (Multimedia University Malaysia Lecturer & Street Photographer), and Amri Ginang (Advertising Freelance) Participants may register for a free photo outing that will take place on 21st June 2014.
