Outlook for Soft Commodities – Reverting to Trend or Structural Change?

Mr David Jackson studied Economics at Cambridge University before working in the City of London as an analyst. He subsequently spent five years working on agricultural projects in southern Africa before joining LMC International, where he has worked extensively in many commodity sectors, including oilseeds, sugar and cereals, and their extension into biofuels. He is currently Director of Oils and Cereals Research.

       

       
       
2.   Palm Oil – A Versatile Ingredient for Food

After basic education, Mr Hennie Slager studied Organic Chemistry at Van ‘t Hoff Institute in Rotterdam. He started his career in 1969 at Unilever Emery in Gouda in the QC department before being transferred to daughter company Loders Croklaan in Wormerveer, Holland where he served as Junior Application Manager in Speciality Vegetable Oils and Fats, mainly for confectionary and chocolate industry. He then received basic management training in communication nd social skills from Harvard University.

He was then transferred to Unilever daughter Cocoa Bensdorp in Bussum, Holland in 1985 before joining Unilever back at Loders Croklaan, Wormerveer where he served as Application & Technical Service Manager. His job has taken him all over the world including Russia and Ukraine. He has since achieved Senior Application & Technical Service Manager status in 2002, heading the Application & Technical Service Department, responsible for global services to customers. In 2004 Loders Croklaan was bought by IOI-Group Malaysia. He received international trainings in Malaysia within IOI Group which include Involvement in establishing longer term strategy for Loders Croklaan Speciality Fats. In 2009, he was nominated as Global Application Manager. He has an ownership for several company patents on ‘Specialty Fats’ as well as publications in trade magazines. He has also given lectures at oils and fats seminar and exhibition in Germany, Russia and Cairo.

       
3. Fundamental Approach to Price Forecasting 2010

Dorab Mistry was born in India in 1953 and graduated from Bombay University in Commerce in 1973. He qualified as a chartered accountant in 1976, having won the President’s Gold Medal. He started his career at GODREJ, one of India’s leading industrial groups, in 1976. Since 1977 Dorab has been based in London handling the vegetable oil buying and trading portfolio for GODREJ. The company’s wide ranging interests in vegetable oil processing, animal feeds, oleo chemicals, alcohols, soaps, toiletries, foods and plantations gives him unique perspective of the Indian vegetable oil scenario. Since 1996, Dorab has been a regular speaker on vegetable oil Price Outlook and is regarded as a leading analyst of price behaviour. His forecasts of vegetable oil price have been very accurate in recent years and he has successfully predicted the rise in palm oil prices from a level of MYR1,400 from March 2006 onwards. He also writes and speaks regularly on the Indian economic scene. Since 2001, Dorab has served as India’s representative on the managing committee of the International Association of Seed Crushers. He was Vice President of the IASC.
