MPO exports to India during Jan-Feb 2023 showed a decrease by 2.36% from 411,165 MT to 401,448 MT mainly due to huge imports of edible oils into the country during the previous months. This has resulted in the stock reaching its peak of 1.26 million MT by the end of January 2023. High stock situation and the start of domestic mustard supply has kept the edible oil’s imports to stay low in February 2023.

A decrease in the import of soft oils was also reported. The imports are estimated to stay lower even during the coming months at around 1.05-1.10 million MT which would bring down the stocks to a normal level of 750,000 MT by middle of 2023.

MPO exports to Pakistan during this period also went down to 49,238 MT from 80,842 MT recorded during the same corresponding period of last year. This was also contributed by the higher edible oil stocks at Port Qasim Authority (PQA) and Karachi Port Trust (KPT) which recorded a figure of 456,315 MT, 12.69% higher than the closing stocks of the previous month. The stocks of RBD palm olein is showing the highest share of 52.49% followed by palm oil 36.05%. Palm oil and its various fractions have a share of 91.69% in the total ending stocks. Lower intake of palm oil into the country was also contributed by the slow processing of document at the bank which has resulted in the increase of stocks at PQA. The arrivals in the month of March 2023 are likely to be lower at the level of 180,000 – 200,000 MT which will result in reduction of stocks at the end of the month.
