The increase in MPO export to the Americas region is largely attributed to higher export to the biggest buyer in the region, the United States (USA). During Jan-Mar 2023 period, total MPO exports to USA went up to 41,336 MT from 17,975 MT recorded during the same period of last year (refer to Table 4). In terms of product breakdown to USA, RBD palm oil, RBD palm stearin and RBD palm olein are the top three products exported to the USA comprising almost 90% of the overall MPO export to USA (refer to table 4). Export of RBD palm oil increased by 882.5%, RBD palm stearin increased by 139.3% while RBD palm olein increased by 115.8%. The positive increment of Malaysian palm oil export to the USA came after US CBP lifted a two-year import ban on palm oil and palm products produced by Sime Darby Plantation (SDP). SDP was previously blocked by US CBP from entering the US over suspected abusive labour practices. In February 2023, US CBP determined that SDP products were no longer produced with forced labour. In addition, the Indonesian government has curbed its palm oil export due to low stocks and all of these factors will contribute to the boost in Malaysian palm oil import demand by the USA. On a global basis, the total growth rate of palm oil export has increased sharply when compared to the export amount in 2022.  Most of the growth in total palm oil export was contributed by export to Asian countries especially China and India as well as EU, USA and some African countries. Global palm oil stocks has declined sizably during the past few months in the producing countries, primarily in Indonesia and Malaysia. Table 4: MPO Export to USA by Type of Products
