The Roundtable Conference on Border Carbon Adjustments and its effects on Malaysian Exporters

INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE

THE ROUNDTABLE CONFERENCE ON “BORDER CARBON ADJUSTMENTS AND ITS EFFECTS ON MALAYSIAN EXPORTERS

The Roundtable Conference on “Border Carbon Adjustments and its effects on Malaysian Exporters” is jointly-organised by the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) Bangkok and the Environmental Management and Research Association of Malaysia (ENSEARCH).  Details of the conference are as follows:

Date             : 11th March 2010

Venue          : Sime Darby Convention Centre, Mont Kiara, Kuala Lumpur

Time            : 9:00a.m. to 5:00p.m.

The objective of the conference is to raise awareness on Border Carbon Adjustments (BCA), a climate change mitigation policy which if implemented, may require exporters to declare the carbon footprint of their products and the introduction of carbon tax. This would directly affect export oriented industries in Malaysia, such as the palm oil industry.

The conference will be an important avenue for palm oil stakeholders to learn more about BCA in general and how this new issue will affect the palm oil industry and trade in particular.  Of great importance is the opportunity to provide feedback concerning this new issue.  It is, thus, important that as many members of the different parts of the palm oil supply chain attend this conference and provide feedback to the organisers.

Participation in this conference is free of charge. However, it is limited to only twenty persons only on a first come first served basis. Thus, interested participants need to contact directly Mr. Jaya Sarathy at Tel. No: 03-6156 9807 /08 or e-mail: ed@ensearch.org as soon as possible or for further information. For more details on the conference, kindly refer to the attached Invitation Letter, Draft Agenda and Registration Form. Click here to download the draft agenda and registration form.

Thank you.
