Virtual Reality Oil Palm Plantation Tour 1.0

MPOC proudly presents The Virtual Reality Oil palm Plantation Tour which is now available on MPOC official website http://mpoc.org.my/vr-oil-palm/plantation-tour.html. This is a creative collaboration with Felda, FGV Holdings Berhad and Sime Darby Plantation Berhad which was a joint effort to bring the plantation environment to the view of the general public. This is a basic tour from a bird’s eye view of the landscape and environment with short videos of the processes in a typical oil palm plantation, from the oil palm seedling cultivation to the mill processing of crude palm oil.

The Nursery section covers the basics of pre-nursery and nursery management where seeds are sowed and raised until they are ready for transplanting in estates. The Planting segment covers plantation management of estates during replanting, maintenance using good agricultural practices up to the harvesting of fruit bunches. The Mill segment covers the processing of fresh fruit bunches and extraction of crude palm oil and the refining process of palm oil until the bottling section.

Two other basic but important elements added are, the Community and the Conservation initiatives undertaken by the Malaysian palm oil industry. An oil palm plantation provides suitable amenities to the workers and their families and provides access to better livelihood, facilities and education for children. The industry also cares for the environment by protecting the environment and undertakes conservation initiatives towards a sustainable future.

During this challenging period of the pandemic, the processes and videography were taken in multiple locations and landscapes with great cooperation from the management and staffs of our collaborators. We take this opportunity to thank those who have been involved directly and/or directly in the production of this virtual oil palm plantation tour and we hope to enhance and add more features to this tour in the near future with specific emphasis on Good Agricultural Practices, Integrated Pest Management, Downstream Processing, Community and Conservation and many more.
